The Firearms Statistics That Gun Control Advocates Don’t Want to See

FBI Gun Stats Show California, Washington, D.C. Rank High in Gun Murders

” To accompany TheBlaze’s coverage of the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Houston, we figured it could be helpful to share some gun statistics pointed out to us by some of the NRA Convention attendees. Forget the talking points used by both sides in the gun control debate; we’re going to be talking about verified statistics.

Gun control advocates be advised, these are not the statistics you are looking for.

According to data from the FBI’s uniform crime reports, California had the highest number of gun murders in 2011 with 1,220 — which makes up 68 percent of all murders in the state that year and equates to 3.25 murders per 100,000 people.

In 2011, Utah, the state that the Brady Campaign determined had the least gun control, experienced just 26 gun murders and a firearms murder rate of 0.97. Utah has a population 2.8 million.”

Vet Arrested For Carrying AR-15 On Boy Scout Hike Gets Ultimate Surprise At NRA Convention

” When Army Master Sgt. C.J. Grisham was arrested in March for what police in Temple, Texas called “rudely displaying” his rifle, the story quickly gained attention. While the police department is still holding onto Grisham’s AR-15 and .45 caliber pistol, he got a huge surprise at the NRA convention in Houston on Friday when Black Rain Ordnance offered to give him, yes give him, his choice of an AR-15.

Co-founder of Black Rain Ordnance, Charlie Spires, told The Blaze at the convention, “When we heard about his situation, it was obvious that his rights were trampled on. Then we hear that they basically confiscated his weapon and he can’t get it back — what can we do? That was the next question we asked.”

CAN THE GOVERNMENT BAN ‘ASSAULT WEAPONS’? CONSTITUTIONAL EXPERTS WEIGH IN

” This article is part of a series on Guns in America that explores the use of firearms in our country and the debate over gun control.

Since the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, one of the major responses has been to increase restrictions on gun rights, presumably to reduce the probability that a mass shooting will take place.

But what if their proposed methods for doing so are unconstitutional? That’s the argument advanced by some experts on constitutional law, who argue that the landmark cases of District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago protect against the most controversial ideas being proposed, such as an assault weapons ban. Moreover, even some renowned liberal experts on the same law law admit that the tools available to the government are limited.

Key questions in the debate are: Can the government ban assault weapons without violating the Constitution? If so, why? To answer these questions, TheBlaze spoke to legal authorities on both sides of the ideological divide, including some truly famous names within the realm of constitutional law. What we found may surprise you.

A Teaser To Pique Your Interest …

” On these grounds, at least one expert would toss out assault weapons bans entirely. That expert, Randy Barnett of Georgetown Law Center, explained his reasoning to theBlaze via phone:

“When you get down to specifics, I think some of the easier cases for finding unconstitutionality is the assault weapons ban, which bans a weapon in common use, which is the phrase that Heller used to describe the weapons that are protected by the Second Amendment,” Barnett told TheBlaze. “There’s hardly a weapon that’s in more common use than the AR-15 so-called assault weapon. I say so-called, because we all know this is a made-up category. They don’t fire any faster than a constitutionally protected handgun fires, and it’s typically less lethal than a handgun.” “

Texas Police Dept. Responds To Incident Of Arresting War Veteran For “Rudely Displaying” Rifle

We must admit that the title of the linked article is a bit misleading . The Temple police department refuses to comment on Army Master Sgt. C.J. Grisham’s case at this point , but the article is of great interest for the links to a systematic attempt on the part of the government to deny our veterans their 2nd amendment rights .

For those that may have missed it here is the video that Sgt Grisham’s son shot of the arrest :

” TheBlaze has reported that the Temple Police Department, which arrested Grisham, is refusing to comment on what happened. TheBlaze also interviewed Justin Flint, an attorney who specializes in Texas gun law. Flint agreed that, looking at the video, it did not appear that Grisham had resisted the officer in any way. Texas allows concealed carry provided that the carrier shows the officer the weapon, identifies himself, and proves his right to concealed carry.  Additionally, Texas places no legal limitations on “carrying a long arm, a rifle, or a shotgun. . . .” Texas police, however, may disarm a person while they are questioning him, in order to ensure their own safety, provided that, unless they determine that the person carrying the weapon committed a crime, they return the weapon.

Taken in isolation, this could just be a bad luck story – with a single soldier having run afoul of an ill-informed or bad tempered police officer. What’s dismaying about Grisham’s story is the fact that there seems to be a concerted government attack against military personnel and veterans who carry guns.

Read more here about Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s claim that all veterans are dangerously mentally ill and cannot be armed; the Veterans Administrations’ letters to veterans threatening their weapons; and the recent revelation that the Veterans Administration is actively engaged in seizing veterans’ weapons.”

For The Record Exposes The Terrifying Surveillance State

Surveillance State

Video at the link

” Who is listening? Who is reading your emails? Who is watching you?

We all have a basic idea of how much access the government has to our personal information. But what are they using it for and, more importantly, what are they capable of? Since September 11, 2001, the National Security Agency (NSA) has turned America into a surveillance state, and tonight’s premiere of For The Record, TheBlaze’s new news magazine series, takes a deeper look into just what the government is doing with all that information.

“There is little information today the NSA cannot acquire if it wants to,” said American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) attorney Alexander Abdo. Using the firsthand accounts of four NSA whistleblowers, For The Record exposes the truth behind the government agency that is invading American’s privacy under the guise of national security.”
