Former 10th Mountain Division Soldier Aids Christian Militias Fighting ISIS

” A former 10th Mountain Division soldier is helping Christian militias in Iraq protect their homes from Islamic State group militants.

Brett Felton, who previously served with the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, told a crew from CBS News’s “60 Minutes” that his Christian faith inspired him to travel into the country.

“ People say, ‘You’re crazy for doin’ this,’” Mr. Felton said on the program. “I think people are crazy for not doing their part, to be honest with you. To me, for the Christians here, it would be an honor to give my life helping these people.”

Mr. Felton deployed to Iraq in 2006, and left the Army in 2007.

The Troy, Mich., native arrived in Iraq after sneaking over from Lebanon, where he was studying.

The news program’s crew found him in February training forces in Bakufa, a small village north of Mosul, where many of its Christian residents have fled.”

Deadly Force ~ The Basics…

FergusonPoliceStory

” My goal here is to help everyone better understand the use of deadly force and why it is unfortunately necessary at times. I am not an attorney, but I do have a law enforcement background. I am a graduate of The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and in a past life held a Certification to teach the Armed and Unarmed Security Officers Course, as well as the Private Investigators Course in Virginia. Prior to all that I served in the United States Marine Corps and did a tour as a Marine Security Guard, protecting American Embassies around the world. I have carried a weapon since I joined the Marine Corps at 17 years of age.

Law Enforcement Officers are taught about the concept of “Escalating Levels of Force.”  Most Officers have a number of defensive weapons at their disposal, that in an “ideal” situation, time permitting, can be deployed against someone who is being aggressive, or poses a threat to them. Not all people who are aggressive necessarily pose a threat, conversely not all people who pose a threat show signs of aggression before they attack. “

Boeing Test Flies The Unmanned QF-16 Fighter

Boeing Pilotless F-16

” As a pilotless F-16 roared into the sky Sept. 19 at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., members of Boeing’s QF-16 team and the U.S. Air Force celebrated.

The flight represented the first unmanned QF-16 Full Scale Aerial Target flight.  Put another way, fighter pilots now have an adversary for which to train against that prepares them like never before.

Two U.S. Air Force test pilots in a ground control station at Tydall remotely flew the QF-16, which is a retired F-16 jet modified to be an aerial target. While in the air, the QF-16 mission included a series of simulated maneuvers, reaching supersonic speeds, returning to base and landing, all without a pilot in the cockpit.

“ It was a little different to see it without anyone in it, but it was a great flight all the way around,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Ryan Inman, Commander, 82nd Aerial Targets Squadron. “It’s a replication of current, real world situations and aircraft platforms they can shoot as a target. Now we have a 9G capable, highly sustainable aerial target.”

Prior to the QF-16, the military used a QF-4 aircraft, which was a modification of the F-4 Phantom, a Vietnam-era fighter The modified QF-16 provides pilots a target that performs closer to many jets flying today.

The QF-16s were all retired aircraft. Boeing retrieved them from Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona and restored them for flight.

Next up, live fire testing moves to Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. The military will ultimately use QF-16s for weapons testing and other aerial training.

So far, Boeing has modified six F-16s into the QF-16 configuration.

I didn’t want to post about this, because frankly, it is exhausting. I’ve been having this exact same argument for my entire adult life. It is not an exaggeration when I say that I know pretty much exactly every single thing an anti-gun person can say. I’ve heard it over and over, the same old tired stuff, trotted out every single time there is a tragedy on the news that can be milked. Yet, I got sucked in, and I’ve spent the last few days arguing with people who either mean well but are uninformed about gun laws and how guns actually work (who I don’t mind at all), or the willfully ignorant (who I do mind), or the obnoxiously stupid who are completely incapable of any critical thinking deeper than a Facebook meme (them, I can’t stand).

Today’s blog post is going to be aimed at the first group…

” This week’s outrage comes to us from our nation’s capital, where D.C.’s decidedly anti-gun mayor is apoplectic over a billboard ad placed last month by the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

So what was it about the billboard ad that so raised the ire of D.C.’s mayor, Vincent Gray?  Well, the billboard says “Hey D.C. — It’s time for your first shot,” and features a picture of a woman holding a paper target.  The billboard, which is simply an advertisement for NSSF’s “First Shots” gun safety and training seminars, so incensed Mayor Gray that he called the sign “offensive” and “irresponsible.” “

From  The Truth About Guns comes an enlightening example of the superior quality of law enforcement training . Leave it to the experts as they say .

“How is it that so many cops manage to handle their guns – the ones for which they’ve received all that training and developed all that expertise – so poorly? Take Chief Walt Sanford of the Adirondack town of Fort Edward, New York. As portstar.com reports, he just put a 9×19 through his left hand while doing a little routine maintenance.”
