The Armenian Genocide Explained

” The 100th anniversary of the massacre of Armenians under the Ottoman Empire will be commemorated on April 24, and Pope Francis recently referred to it officially as “the first genocide of the 20th century.”

The mass killings, which began in 1915, have long been a topic of controversy between Turkey and Armenia.

To Armenians, the slaughter is a seminal event in their shared history, and members of the community, including Kim Kardashian, are doing their best to draw attention to the estimated 1.5 million lives lost.

Turkey acknowledges that atrocities took place, although it maintains that the death toll was closer to 300,000 and rejects the term genocide entirely. By definition, the term genocide means a premeditated and systematic attempt to eradicate an ethnic, racial or religious group of people. Turkey argues that the deaths were an unfortunate part of a complicated war in which many Turkish lives were also lost.

But how did this violence come about?

The historic Kingdom of Armenia was the first nation to declare Christianity as its official religion. In the 15th century, it was progressively absorbed into the Muslim-ruled Ottoman Empire. Even though Armenians were granted few political or legal rights, they were allowed a degree of autonomy. Maintaining their religious and social identity, the Armenians thrived for centuries.”

Here are some facts regarding the start of 20th century Jihad:

The Armenian genocide was , as the Pope says the 20th century’s first genocide , but it was also the 20th century’s first instance of Jihad . The Armenians were Christians , the Turks were/are Muslims . Remember that as you read the rest .

Three US sailors Ambushed In Turkey By Anti-American Protesters

” Anti-American protesters shouting “Yankee, go home!” roughed up three US navy sailors Wednesday in Istanbul near where their warship was docked on an inlet of the Bosphorus Strait in the Black Sea.

About 10 protesters shouted at them, calling them killers and saying they should leave Turkey. The protesters, who carried a banner of the Youth Association of Turkey, threw red paint at the sailors and briefly succeeded in putting white sacks over their heads.

The servicemen, who were not in uniform, were from the USS Ross, a guided-missile destroyer docked nearby, according to Capt Greg Hicks, a spokesman for the US European Command. He said they were not hurt and were safely back aboard the ship, but that shore leave for its sailors was canceled for the remainder of the day. The incident is being investigated by US authorities, he said.”

Krauthammer: Susan Rice Turkey Gaffe ‘A Huge Embarrassment,’ ‘Unbelievable’

Rice's Huge Turkey Gaffe

” Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer lashed out at National Security adviser Susan Rice following her seemingly premature announcement that the U.S. had reached an agreement with Turkey over using territory to train troops to fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Krauthammer told “Special Report” host Bret Baier, after airing Rice’s comments on “Meet The Press” on Sunday, that the adviser’s proclamation, coupled with the Turks denial, is a “huge embarrassment” and “unbelievable.” The conservative commentator also blamed President Barack Obama for this failure to reach an agreement, wondering why the Turks would join a war “where the leader of the coalition is not serious.” “

Girl, 15, Escapes Slavery In Iraq By Killing Man, Drugging Another

Yazidi Teen Escapes ISIS

” The Associated Press has published an interview with an anonymous 15-year-old girl, who says she was captured and sold into slavery by Islamic State terrorists, but escaped.

The girl, who remains anonymous for her protection, is a Yazidi, a member of an ethnic and religious sect that Sunni Muslims regard as satanic. The religion itself has roots in Zoroastrianism and Christianity and has been influenced by Islam. They regard themselves as pacifists and have long striven to coexist with their Muslim and Christian neighbors.

The religious sect has counted 73 massacres in their history including the most recent one at the hands of the Islamic State. During that massacre, men and teenage boys were killed while women, some as young as 5, were taken and sold into slavery.

It was amid the violence that took place on Mount Sinjar where the victim said she was captured by Islamic State fighters. Most of her family disappeared, likely murdered. She survived with her sisters who were all taken together. The terrorists took her to a stronghold a prison in the town of Tal Afar and held. Many women she said were raped by the guards who detained them.”

Exclusive: Confidential Source Reveals To Me What Really Happened In Benghazi

” I learned about the proximity of the staging area of the attack to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, and the attackers were indeed Ansar al-Sharia, a group affiliated with al-Qaida. I came to understand why Ambassador Chris Stevens was there in the first place and that he had in fact requested better security but was denied – the question is, by whom? And I learned that the Martyrs of 17 February Brigade were in charge of security and were the ones who opened the gates, then fled.

I learned there are those who are being threatened with their pensions being cut off if they come forth to speak.

And I learned, as I presumed, that there was a covert weapons scheme going on in Libya, Benghazi. We had been supplying radical Islamists with weapons against Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi, effectively supplying the enemy and destabilizing that country. And it seems that there was a CIA weapons buy-back program, the aim of which was to ship the retrieved weapons out of Libya through Turkey, and to the Islamist forces in Syria.

Benghazi and the operations in Libya are shrouded in a fog of lies, deceit, manipulation, threats, intimidation, coercion, abandonment, and worst of all, potentially treason.”

Syrian Muslims Infected With Kuru, A Disease Of Cannibals

” Kuru was first identified in 1961 among the Fore tribe in Papua New Guinea. Research suggested that the epidemic may have originated around 1900 from a single individual who lived on the edge of Fore territory and who is thought to have spontaneously developed some form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. From that infected individual, Kuru spread easily and rapidly in the Fore people due to their endocannibalistic funeral practices, in which relatives consumed the bodies of their dead, especially the brain tissue where prions are concentrated,  to return the “life force” of the deceased to the hamlet. By the mid-1960s, Kuru was in decline among the Fore due to Australian colonial law forbidding cannibalism, as well as the efforts of local Christian missionaries. But cases continued to appear for several more decades because the mean incubation (asymptomatic) phase of the disease is 14 years after initial exposure, although cases were reported with latencies of 40 years or more. The clinical (symptomatic) phase of the disease lasts an average of 12 months, before the infected person dies.

Walid Theodore Shoebat, a former member of the radical Muslim Brotherhood but now a truth-telling peace activist, writes in his blog that Kuru has been found in 8 to 20 people in war-torn Syria, and the only way it could have come about, doctors confirmed, is through cannibalism and the consumption of human brain,as first reported by Arabian news source Zaman al-Wasal and substantiated by Orient News Television.

Two of the infected were sent from Syria to a hospital in Ghazi Antab in Turkey for further examination, then transferred to another hospital in Germany. One of the two was confirmed to have eaten human flesh, and he eventually died.”

CIA Warily Watches For Threats To U.S. Now That 87 Nations Possess Drones

The age of the drone is here, and U.S. intelligence agencies are warily monitoring their proliferation around the globe.

China uses them to spy on Japan near disputed islands in AsiaTurkey uses them to eyeball Kurdish activity in northern IraqBolivia uses them to spot coca fields in the Andes. Iran reportedly has given them to Syria to monitor opposition rebels.

The U.S., Britain and Israel are the only nations to have fired missiles from remote-controlled drones, but the proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles has become so prevalent that U.S. intelligence sources and private analysts say it is merely a matter of time before other countries use the technology.

People in Washington like to talk about this as if the supposed American monopoly on drones might end one day. Well, the monopoly ended years ago,” said Peter W. Singer, who heads the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence at the Brookings Institution.

What’s worse, clandestine strikes carried out by Washington in far-flung corners of the world have set a precedent that could be ugly.”

Syria Is Jihad Central: 6,000 Terrorists Flood New al Qaeda Training Ground

” Thousands of foreign terrorists traveled to Syria over the past several months to wage jihad, or holy war, in what U.S. officials say is fast becoming a new international terror training ground.

Most of the foreign terrorists are fighting for the al Qaeda-linked group the al-Nusra Front and are coming from around the world, mainly from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Libya, and Tunisia, by crossing the Syrian border with Turkey. The al-Nusra Front is the most well organized and ideologically motivated armed opposition group after the secular Free Syrian Army.

“The Syrian opposition is benefiting from a steady flow of foreign fighters who seem to be joining a variety of Islamist-oriented brigades or, on a smaller scale, starting up nationality-based units,” said one U.S. official familiar with internal reports on the region.”

Barack’s Best Friend Erdogan Not Looking Pretty

” Violence in Istanbul is threatening President Obama’s relationship with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. What started out as a protest against the development of a park has morphed into a show of much wider discontent. Over the weekend, more than two weeks after the protests started, police used tear gas and water cannons to clear Gezi Park of its protesters and spent most of Sunday chasing protesters and looters into shopping malls and upscale hotels.

To most outsiders, this looks like an excellent time for some soothing words and calming speeches in Turkey. Erdogan has a solid majority in parliament and his core supporters don’t seem fazed by the protests in Istanbul. Making a few concessions, pulling the police back except where violence or looting actually occurs, and calming things down were the actions most of us would advise at a time like this.

But Turkish politics has its own rhythms, and Erdogan has his own priorities—and temperament. In response to the protests, he’s toughening his rhetoric and promising a crackdown. In the process, he may have killed the last flickering hope for reopening EU accession talks as his EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bagis is calling the protesters “terrorists.”

We’ll see where this goes. The unrest in Turkey has spread much farther and lasted much longer than anyone expected. If nothing else, the police violence has persuaded many Western liberals that Turkey’s secularists weren’t overreacting when they warned that the AK Party would ultimately limit Turkish freedom.”

” The tension in Turkey is quickly approaching its breaking point as thousands of protesters gear up for a third week occupying Istanbul’s Gezi Park. This being the modern age, where computers fit in our pockets and everybody’s a potential terrorist, some locals decided to take their little camera-enabled, radio-controlled quadcopter for a spin. This, again, being the modern age, police promptly shot it down. And yes, a drone was harmed in the making of this movie.”

Police Move Past Barricades Into Istanbul Square

” Hundreds of police in riot gear pushed past improvised barricades early Tuesday to reach Istanbul’s central Taksim Square, firing tear gas and rubber bullets to scatter protesters who have occupied the area for more than a week.

Many of the demonstrators fled into the square’s Gezi Park, where hundreds have been camping as part of the occupation aimed at stopping a development project in the park. Bulldozers immediately began dismantling some of the barricades and makeshift shelters set up on the square, although they insisted they would not move into the park.”
